Charles Edward Hallé (1846 – 1914).

Charles Edward Hallé was born in Paris of British parents, his father being Sir Charles Hallé, founder of the eponymous orchestra. Charles grew up in Italy but when there was a revolution in that country in 1848 moved to England. He became co-director of the Grosvenor Gallery in London, which had been founded as a more progressive balance to the conservative Royal Academy.
